Our workshops are held in our well-equipped studio situated in Eton Wick, Windsor, in a pleasant rural location. We offer course dates 6 days a week, 51 weeks of the year, you select the day that suits you, we check availability and confirm if it's convenient with us, (even for qualifying courses). It’s as easy as that. No waiting for months for the particular course that you want to take place, or joining a large class where your time with the instructor is very limited. We are also very flexible with the type of courses we offer, just tell us what it is you want to do and we will tailor the day to suit you.
We teach a selection of techniques using ‘Art Clay Silver’ which enables you to get started straight away with making your very own designer pieces. You'll be amazed at what you can achieve on your very first go with the guidance of a senior qualified instructor.
Art Clay Silver can be combined with dichroic glass or embellished with resins, stones or gold leaf. Or why not try one of our specialist courses, you could choose a ring, stone setting or brooch making day for something different.
Once you've mastered the basics, we provide follow on courses for the more experienced in order to solder your pieces together, along with trying out some other more traditional silver-smithing methods.
‘Art Clay Silver’ is a magical substance which consists of finely ground, pure reclaimed silver particles mixed with nontoxic binders and water, to form a clay like substance.
This substance can be rolled, flattened, pressed into moulds, pushed through a syringe to give a filigree effect, or carved by hand - in fact you can achieve anything that you can with ordinary clays! Once you have perfected a shape, you dry the clay with a conventional hairdryer or leave to air dry overnight, this process evaporates all of the water.
After sanding your piece to a nice smooth finish, you are ready to fire, which can be done using a kiln, blow torch or even a gas hob. This removes the binders and you are left with 99.9% pure silver. After polishing you will have your very own designer piece of jewellery, which is suitable for hallmarking.
On this day you will make approx. 3 finished pieces. The day is tailored to accommodate beginners and more experienced students alike, with individual tuition given you will be taught a variety of skills.
The price of the day includes 17gms of ‘Art Clay Silver’, which is sufficient to make a ring, pendant and a pair of earrings. Although, this is just a guide as each student is given the opportunity and guidance to choose projects for themselves.
Alternatively, we offer a half silver day, which takes place over 3 hours, aimed at both experienced and beginner students.
The price of the half day includes 10gms of ‘Art Clay Silver’ with which you can make a pair of earrings and a pendant however, like the silver day, there is also the opportunity to create different pieces if you choose.
Why not come along and try our silver and glass combined workshop? On the day you will spend the morning being taught how to cut and fuse glass to achieve the best results; you will make approximately 5 or 6 pieces of stunning fused glass.
After lunch you will select one or two of your favourite pieces to enhance with ‘Art Clay Silver’, making them into "one offs" and your own piece of individual jewellery designed by you!
